It has been nearly a year and a half since we left our offices and made working from home the new norm. With a grand return, we are saying goodbye to remote shows and welcoming back the physical attendance in fashion shows as we have known them for years. This year, I was so honoured to be a part of the 57th edition of Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF) at the Bella Center, and the headline was of course: sustainability.
CIFF is one of the major destinations for the international fashion industry with a reputation for being one of Europe’s most inspirational, dynamic and innovative platforms.
I was very fortunate to get in touch with the event-coordinator for CIFF who hired me to be her helper - or so-called ‘runner’. She had once herself been in my shoes and got a helping hand into this ‘exclusive’ fashion world. Now, she wanted to give the opportunity to others as well. So, my job consisted of hosting different kinds of events - from DJ shows to talk shows - and to make sure that everyone was having a great time. For me, this was an amazing opportunity to mingle, network and get some inside knowledge on what it is like to work in the ‘fast paced’ and hard-to-get-inside-of’ fashion week. I got to attend the talk shows and listen to different inspiring designers, experts and researchers - newcomers as well as well-knowns. I was honoured to talk to the head of sales/marketing from Han Kjøbenhavn, which this year was acknowledged as the most innovative brand.
I also got in touch with a cool guy from DANSK MAGAZINE. One of the main sustainable initiatives was the ‘Circular Fashion Days’ exhibition, which frankly I didn’t get to talk to as much as I wanted to. I was very excited about them being there because they, surprisingly enough, were one of the only ones really being critical about the lack of sustainable directional brands there. Their job was to raise awareness and provoke the whole sustainable debate, inspire and educate brands as well as buyers. I definitely recommend reading about this in their 3rd issue because it sets a more critical perspective to the fashion week.
This year CIFF has, like everyone else, been given tons of challenges but also the opportunity to rethink and refine the format, make better choices and update their layout and flow. And due to the ending of COVID lockdown the energy was ecstatic - and I have been so pleased to be a part of it!
